TIFF files are heavy, and most browsers can’t display them, which makes scans and archive photos awkward to put online. WebP shows in current browsers and keeps the file small. FormatJet converts TIFF to WebP in your browser, page by page, so your files stay on your device.

About the formats

TIFFTIFF image

TIFF is a high-quality image format used for scanning, printing and archiving. One file can hold several pages, and files are usually large.

WebPWebP image

WebP is an image format made for the web. Files are smaller than JPG and PNG and can have transparency or animation, but some older apps can’t open it.

Converted with magick-wasm, Image engine.

Questions

What happens to a TIFF with several pages?

Each page is saved as a separate WebP. Grab them individually, or use “Download all” to get one ZIP.

Will the WebP be the right way up?

Yes. The orientation stored in the TIFF is applied during conversion, so scans and photos don’t come out sideways.

Should I choose lossless for scanned documents?

For text and line drawings that must stay pixel-perfect, tick “Lossless (larger files, no quality loss)”. Photos look good at the default quality of 80 and come out smaller.

Why does the first conversion take a moment to start?

Reading TIFF needs magick-wasm, about 5 MB, which downloads the first time you use it. After that your browser holds on to a copy.
