Last updated 18 October 2026

Don’t use FormatJet to

  • Break the law, or help someone else break it.
  • Convert or copy material you don’t have the right to, including getting around copy protection (DRM) or saving media from streaming or video platforms.
  • Process child sexual abuse material. We report it to the authorities, as the law requires.
  • Handle content that threatens or harasses people, promotes violence, or exposes someone’s private information without their consent.
  • Spread malware, or files built to attack or exploit software.

Don’t misuse the service

  • Don’t try to get around limits, for example with many accounts, rotating IP addresses or automated tools on the website. The API is the place for automation.
  • Don’t probe, scan or attack FormatJet or its infrastructure, or try to reach files that aren’t yours.
  • Don’t overload the service or interfere with other people using it.
  • Don’t resell or rebrand FormatJet without a written agreement with us.

What we do about misuse

We may refuse or stop a conversion, delete files from our servers, limit or close an account, and report unlawful activity to the authorities. Files converted in your browser never reach us, so we can’t see or act on them; this policy still applies to them.
