Large photos and screenshots are often too big for a profile picture, a web page or an upload form with pixel limits. Set the largest width and height you want, and FormatJet scales each image down to fit, keeping its proportions. The resizing runs in your browser, so the images stay on your device.

About the formats

JPGJPEG image

JPG (or JPEG) is the most widely supported photo format. Its lossy compression keeps files small, which suits photos but not sharp text or transparency.

PNGPNG image

PNG is a lossless image format with transparency. It’s ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges, but photos come out larger than JPG.

WebPWebP image

WebP is an image format made for the web. Files are smaller than JPG and PNG and can have transparency or animation, but some older apps can’t open it.

AVIFAVIF image

AVIF is a modern image format based on the AV1 video codec. It compresses better than JPG and WebP, though older software often can’t open it.

Questions

How do I set the new size?

Enter a “Maximum width” and “Maximum height” in pixels under Options. Each image is scaled down until it fits inside that box, keeping its shape, so nothing is stretched or cropped.

Will a small image be made bigger?

No. Images are only ever scaled down. One that already fits inside your box comes back at its original size, minus location data if that option is on.

How good is the resizing?

Pixels are resampled with the Lanczos filter, a high-quality method that keeps edges and text crisp as the image gets smaller.

Does the format or the photo information change?

Each image keeps its format, so a PNG stays a PNG. JPGs keep their date taken and camera details, with GPS removed by default, while PNG, WebP and AVIF files are saved without metadata. An animated PNG, WebP or AVIF is refused rather than cut to one frame.

Can I resize a whole set of photos to the same limits?

Yes. Add up to 20 images and each is fitted inside the same box, keeping its own proportions. Download them one by one or as a single ZIP.
