Up to 20 files at a time.

Options
1 to 100

PNG keeps every pixel exactly, which makes photos and large images heavy to email, upload or post on a website. JPG files are smaller and accepted almost everywhere. FormatJet converts PNG to JPG in your browser, so your images stay on your device.

About the formats

PNGPNG image

PNG is a lossless image format with transparency. It’s ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges, but photos come out larger than JPG.

JPGJPEG image

JPG (or JPEG) is the most widely supported photo format. Its lossy compression keeps files small, which suits photos but not sharp text or transparency.

Converted with jSquash, Image engine.

Questions

What happens to the transparent parts of my PNG?

JPG can’t store transparency, so those areas are filled with a solid colour. It’s white unless you pick another background colour in Options, such as the colour of the page the image will sit on.

Can I convert PNG to JPG without losing quality?

JPG compression always drops some detail, but at the default quality of 85 it’s hard to spot in photos. For screenshots with small text, set the quality closer to 100 in Options.

How much smaller will the JPG be?

Photos shrink the most, because a photo stored as PNG is several times the size of the same photo as JPG. Lower the quality in Options for an even smaller file.

Can I convert a whole folder of PNGs?

You can add up to 20 PNG files at a time, each up to 64 MB. When they’re done, “Download all” puts every JPG in one ZIP.
