HEIC to PNG
Turn iPhone HEIC photos into lossless PNG files. Nothing is uploaded.
Drop HEIC files here
Converted on your device. Files are never uploaded.
Up to 20 files at a time.
iPhones and iPads save photos as HEIC, which many editors, design tools and Windows apps can’t open. PNG opens almost everywhere and keeps every pixel, which suits photos you plan to edit. FormatJet converts HEIC to PNG in your browser, so your photos stay on your device.
About the formats
HEICHEIC image
HEIC (HEIF) is the photo format iPhones and iPads use. It keeps high quality at about half the size of JPG, but many Windows apps and websites can’t open it.
PNGPNG image
PNG is a lossless image format with transparency. It’s ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges, but photos come out larger than JPG.
Converted with libheif-js, jSquash, Image engine.
Questions
Should I convert HEIC to PNG or JPG?
Choose PNG if you’ll edit the photo and want no compression loss. For sharing, HEIC to JPG is the better fit, because a photo as PNG is several times larger and only the JPG keeps the date and camera details.
What happens to Live Photos?
The main still photo becomes the PNG. The motion part of a Live Photo isn’t converted.
Is the location removed from the PNG?
Yes, along with everything else stored about the photo. PNGs from FormatJet carry no photo details, so where, when and with which camera it was taken are all left out.
Do my photos leave my phone or computer?
No. The HEIC decoder, libheif, runs inside your browser, so the photos are converted where they are. The counter under the file list stays at 0 bytes uploaded.
