BMP to WebP
Shrink bulky BMP images into WebP files for the web. Nothing is uploaded.
Drop BMP files here
Converted on your device. Files are never uploaded.
Up to 20 files at a time.
BMP files from Paint, scanners and older software are large and rarely accepted by websites. WebP stores the same image in a far smaller file, either lossy at a quality you set or lossless. FormatJet converts BMP to WebP in your browser, so your images stay on your device.
About the formats

BMP is an uncompressed Windows bitmap format. Almost anything can read it, but files are far larger than PNG or JPG.
WebPWebP image
WebP is an image format made for the web. Files are smaller than JPG and PNG and can have transparency or animation, but some older apps can’t open it.
Converted with Browser image decoder, jSquash, Image engine.
Questions
How much smaller is a WebP than a BMP?
Much smaller, because most BMPs store their pixels with no compression at all. The exact saving depends on the picture and the quality you choose.
Can I keep every pixel of the BMP?
Yes. Tick “Lossless (larger files, no quality loss)” in Options and the WebP holds exactly the same pixels, usually still in a much smaller file than the BMP.
What quality does lossy WebP use?
Quality 80 unless you change it in Options. Lower numbers give smaller files with more visible softening, so raise it for screenshots with fine text.
Do I need special software to read the BMP?
No. Your browser decodes BMP itself, so the conversion works without plug-ins or installs.
