AVIF to WebP
Convert AVIF images to WebP, transparency included. Nothing is uploaded.
Drop AVIF files here
Converted on your device. Files are never uploaded.
Up to 20 files at a time.
AVIF is newer than WebP, and some apps, editors and content systems still accept only WebP. Converting keeps transparency and gives you a choice of lossy or lossless WebP. FormatJet converts AVIF to WebP in your browser, so your images stay on your device.
About the formats
AVIFAVIF image
AVIF is a modern image format based on the AV1 video codec. It compresses better than JPG and WebP, though older software often can’t open it.
WebPWebP image
WebP is an image format made for the web. Files are smaller than JPG and PNG and can have transparency or animation, but some older apps can’t open it.
Converted with jSquash, Image engine.
Questions
Why convert AVIF to WebP?
Some apps, editors and content systems accept WebP but not AVIF. Like AVIF, WebP keeps transparency, so it’s a closer swap than JPG for graphics and cut-outs.
Should I tick “Lossless”?
Tick it when you need the WebP to match the decoded AVIF pixel for pixel, for example before editing. Leave it off for a smaller file at the default quality of 80.
Is the transparent background kept?
Yes. AVIF and WebP both store transparency, so see-through areas stay see-through and the image still works on coloured backgrounds.
Can I convert client images without uploading them?
Yes. Both the AVIF decoder and the WebP encoder run in your browser, so the images stay on your device. The counter under the file list confirms 0 bytes uploaded.
