Converted on your device. Files are never uploaded.
Up to 20 files at a time.
WebM is common for screen recordings and web video, yet many email clients, forums and documentation tools show only images. Turning a clip into a GIF lets it play, silently and on a loop, wherever a picture can go. FormatJet decodes the WebM and builds the GIF in your browser, so nothing leaves your device.
About the formats
WebMWebM video
WebM is an open video format made for the web, with VP8, VP9 or AV1 video and Opus or Vorbis audio. Browsers play it, and screen recorders often save it.
GIFGIF image
GIF is an old image format best known for short animations. It’s limited to 256 colours, so photos look grainy and files can be large.
Converted with Mediabunny, Browser video decoder (WebCodecs), gifenc, Media engine (FFmpeg).
Questions
Why turn a WebM into a GIF?
Plenty of places that accept images, such as email, forums and slide decks, won’t show WebM video. A GIF plays there by itself, on a loop.
What frame rate should I pick?
A higher “Frame rate” in Options gives smoother motion and a bigger file. A lower one keeps the GIF light, which suits screen recordings where little moves between frames.
What happens to the WebM’s audio?
It’s left out. A GIF holds only frames, so any sound in the WebM doesn’t make it into the result.
Can I make a GIF from the middle of a long WebM?
Yes. Enter the second to begin at in “Start at” and the clip’s duration in “Length”, at most 15 seconds. WebM files up to 64 MB can be used.
Why do colours look different in the GIF?
GIF allows up to 256 colours in each frame. Every frame gets a palette picked for it, yet soft shading and gradients can still turn into visible bands.
