Options

MOV is the video format of iPhones and many cameras, and sometimes all you need from a clip is its sound: a wedding toast, a song, an interview. FormatJet saves the audio of a MOV as an MP3 in your browser, so your videos never leave your device and nothing is uploaded.

About the formats

MOVQuickTime movie

MOV is Apple’s QuickTime video format, the one iPhones record in. It holds the same kinds of video as MP4, but some Windows apps and websites don’t accept it.

MP3MP3 audio

MP3 is the most widely supported audio format. Its lossy compression makes music about a tenth of the size of a CD, and every phone, car and player can play it.

Converted with Mediabunny, Browser audio decoder (WebCodecs), LAME MP3 encoder, Media engine (FFmpeg).

Questions

Can I get the sound from an iPhone video?

Yes. iPhones record video as MOV, so drop the clip here and its audio comes back as an MP3. The picture isn’t kept.

What if the MOV has no sound?

Then there’s no audio to save. The page tells you the file has no audio track instead of producing a silent MP3.

Which bitrate works for a speech or interview?

For spoken recordings, the default of 192 kbps or a lower choice in Options keeps the MP3 compact. Save the higher choices for music, where the better sound is worth the larger file.

Is the MOV sent anywhere?

No. Mediabunny reads the MOV inside your browser and LAME encodes the MP3 right there, so home videos and work recordings stay on your computer or phone. The counter under the file list reads 0 bytes uploaded.
