JFIF to PNG

Save JFIF images from the web as PNG files. Nothing is uploaded.

On your device

Drop JFIF files here

Converted on your device. Files are never uploaded.

Up to 20 files at a time.

Saving an image from a browser sometimes gives you a .jfif file that apps and upload forms don’t recognise. It’s really a JPEG, and FormatJet can turn it into a PNG, which most editors and forms accept. The conversion happens in your browser, so the image never leaves your device.

About the formats

JFIFJFIF image

JFIF is a JPEG image with a .jfif extension, often created when saving pictures from a web browser. The picture data is the same as a JPG, but many apps don’t recognise the extension.

PNGPNG image

PNG is a lossless image format with transparency. It’s ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges, but photos come out larger than JPG.

Converted with jSquash, Image engine.

Questions

Why did my image save as .jfif?

Browsers often use the .jfif extension when you save a picture from a web page. Inside, it’s an ordinary JPEG image.

Should I convert JFIF to PNG or JPG?

If you just need a .jpg file, JFIF to JPG is better, because it copies the picture without any quality loss and keeps the file small. Choose PNG when an app asks for PNG or you want to edit the image without further loss.

Will the PNG be larger than the JFIF?

Yes. For photos, expect a PNG several times larger, because PNG stores every pixel instead of compressing the image. It won’t look any sharper than the JFIF did.

The page says my .jfif file is a WebP. Why?

FormatJet reads a file’s contents, not its extension, and some images saved from websites are WebP with a misleading name. Follow the link it shows to convert the file with the right tool.
