JFIF to JPG
Turn JFIF files into standard JPGs with no quality loss. Nothing is uploaded.
Drop JFIF files here
Converted on your device. Files are never uploaded.
Up to 20 files at a time.
JFIF files are JPEG pictures with an unusual extension, and some websites and apps refuse them because of the name. FormatJet turns them into ordinary .jpg files without compressing them again, so the picture stays exactly the same. It all happens in your browser, and nothing leaves your device.
About the formats
JFIFJFIF image
JFIF is a JPEG image with a .jfif extension, often created when saving pictures from a web browser. The picture data is the same as a JPG, but many apps don’t recognise the extension.
JPGJPEG image
JPG (or JPEG) is the most widely supported photo format. Its lossy compression keeps files small, which suits photos but not sharp text or transparency.
Converted with jSquash, Image engine.
Questions
What is a JFIF file?
It holds the same picture data as a JPG, only with a .jfif extension. You usually get one by saving an image from a web browser, and some upload forms reject it because of the name.
Does JFIF to JPG lose any quality?
None. FormatJet copies the picture data as it is, without compressing it again, so the JPG is identical to the JFIF pixel for pixel.
Can’t I just rename .jfif to .jpg?
Usually that works, because the data is the same. Converting also checks that the file really is a JPEG and removes the location data by default, which a rename doesn’t.
Are the date and camera details kept?
Yes. The date taken and camera details stay in the JPG. Only the GPS location is removed, and you can keep that too by unticking “Remove location data from photos”.
