ICO to PNG
Save the largest image in an ICO icon as a PNG. Nothing is uploaded.
Drop ICO files here
Converted on your device. Files are never uploaded.
Up to 20 files at a time.
ICO files hold the icons used by websites and Windows, but many apps, editors and upload forms won’t open them. FormatJet takes the largest picture stored in the icon and saves it as a PNG with its transparency intact, all in your browser, so the file never leaves your device.
About the formats
ICOWindows icon
ICO is the Windows icon format used for favicons and app icons. One ICO file can hold the same icon in several sizes.
PNGPNG image
PNG is a lossless image format with transparency. It’s ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges, but photos come out larger than JPG.
Converted with Browser image decoder, jSquash, Image engine.
Questions
Which size do I get from the ICO?
The largest one. An ICO usually holds several sizes of the same picture, and FormatJet converts the biggest image inside it. The smaller sizes aren’t saved as separate PNGs.
Why is the PNG so small?
The PNG has the same pixel size as the largest image stored in the icon. If that image is only 32 px wide, so is the PNG; FormatJet doesn’t enlarge it.
Will the PNG keep the icon’s transparency?
Yes. PNG keeps transparency, so the see-through corners and edges of the icon stay see-through, ready to place on any background.
Can I convert a website’s favicon.ico?
Yes, once it’s on your device. Save the favicon.ico from the site, then drop it here, and you’ll get its largest image as a PNG.
What if my file ends in .ico but isn’t an icon?
FormatJet checks what the file contains, not its .ico extension. If it’s really another format, the page tells you what it is and links to the converter for it.
