ICO to JPG
Turn an ICO icon into a JPG with a solid background. Nothing is uploaded.
Drop ICO files here
Converted on your device. Files are never uploaded.
Up to 20 files at a time.
Icon files from websites and old Windows programs won’t open in most photo apps or upload forms. FormatJet pulls the biggest picture out of the ICO, puts it on a solid background and saves it as a JPG. The conversion runs in your browser, so the icon stays on your device.
About the formats
ICOWindows icon
ICO is the Windows icon format used for favicons and app icons. One ICO file can hold the same icon in several sizes.
JPGJPEG image
JPG (or JPEG) is the most widely supported photo format. Its lossy compression keeps files small, which suits photos but not sharp text or transparency.
Converted with Browser image decoder, jSquash, Image engine.
Questions
Which picture inside the ICO becomes the JPG?
An ICO can hold the same icon at several sizes, and FormatJet uses the biggest one. The other sizes aren’t exported.
What happens to the icon’s transparent corners?
JPG has no transparency, so they’re filled with white unless you pick another colour under “Background for transparent areas” in Options. To keep them see-through, use ICO to PNG.
Can I make the JPG bigger than the icon?
No. The JPG has the pixel dimensions of the largest image in the ICO, so a small icon gives a small JPG. Nothing is enlarged.
What quality is the JPG saved at?
Quality 85 out of 100 by default, adjustable in Options. Icons have hard edges where JPG compression can leave faint blotches, so raise it if you see any.
