Screenshots, diagrams and logos saved as PNG can be surprisingly heavy for a web page or an email. FormatJet repacks each PNG with oxipng in your browser, losslessly, so the image stays pixel-for-pixel the same while the file shrinks where it can. Your PNGs stay on your device throughout.
About the formats
PNGPNG image
PNG is a lossless image format with transparency. It’s ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges, but photos come out larger than JPG.

Questions
Will my PNG look any different after compressing?
No. oxipng only rewrites how the image data is stored, so every pixel, colour and transparent area stays exactly the same.
Why do other PNG compressors save more?
Many cut an image down to 256 colours, which changes pixels to save space. FormatJet keeps every colour, so the saving is smaller, and a PNG that was already packed tightly may barely shrink.
Can the compressed file come out bigger?
No. When oxipng can’t make a PNG smaller, you get the original back, so a download is never larger than the file you dropped in.
Is there a compression level to pick?
No. Lossless compression has no quality to trade away, so every PNG is compressed with the same settings. Drop your files and download the results.
What else stays in the PNG?
Its other chunks, such as colour profiles and text notes, are kept. The one exception is location data, which goes while “Remove location data from photos” is on.
