A GIF of a PDF page fits places that take images but not documents, such as older forums, wikis and email signatures. Its 256-colour palette suits text, charts and diagrams. FormatJet renders each page with pdf.js in your browser, so your PDF never leaves your device.

About the formats

PDFPDF document

PDF is the standard format for documents that should look the same everywhere. It can hold text, images and vector graphics across many pages.

GIFGIF image

GIF is an old image format best known for short animations. It’s limited to 256 colours, so photos look grainy and files can be large.

Converted with pdf.js, gifenc, PDF engine.

Questions

Will the GIF look like the PDF page?

GIF holds 256 colours per image, which is plenty for text, charts and line drawings. Pages with photos or soft gradients lose colour detail, so PDF to PNG or PDF to JPG suits them better.

Does it make an animated GIF of the pages?

No. Each page you choose becomes its own still GIF. Several pages download one by one or together as a ZIP.

How do I make the GIFs sharper?

Raise Resolution in Options above the default of 150 DPI; it goes up to 600. Each step up gives the GIF more pixels and a bigger file.

Can I convert just a few pages?

Yes. List them under Pages in Options, as single numbers or ranges like 2-4, 7. Leave it set to all to convert the whole document.

Can I select the text in the GIF?

No. The page is drawn as a picture, so its words become pixels you can’t copy or search. Keep the PDF if you still need the text.
