Opus to MP3

Turn WhatsApp and Telegram voice messages into MP3s. Nothing is uploaded.

On your device

Drop Opus files here

Converted on your device. Files are never uploaded.

Up to 20 files at a time.

Options

WhatsApp and Telegram save voice messages as Opus files, which many computers, editors and media players don’t open. Converting them to MP3 lets you keep, play or share a message almost anywhere. FormatJet does it in your browser, so personal recordings stay on your device and are never uploaded.

About the formats

OpusOpus audio

Opus is a modern open audio codec, used for WhatsApp and Telegram voice messages and for streaming. It sounds good at very small sizes, but older players can’t open it.

MP3MP3 audio

MP3 is the most widely supported audio format. Its lossy compression makes music about a tenth of the size of a CD, and every phone, car and player can play it.

Converted with Mediabunny, Browser audio decoder (WebCodecs), LAME MP3 encoder, Media engine (FFmpeg).

Questions

Can I convert WhatsApp voice messages?

Yes. WhatsApp and Telegram save voice messages as Opus files. Once a message is saved as a file on your phone or computer, add it here and it becomes an MP3 you can play in any music app.

Will anyone else hear my voice message?

No. The Opus file is decoded and re-encoded as MP3 inside your browser, so private messages stay on your device. The counter under the file list confirms 0 bytes uploaded.

Which bitrate should I pick for a voice note?

Converting can’t add detail the recording never had, so for speech a lower choice in Options does the job and keeps the MP3 small. The default is 192 kbps.

Will the MP3 be the same length as the message?

Yes. It keeps the voice message’s length and timing, from the first word to the last.
