Options

OGG files, which usually hold Vorbis audio, come from games, open-source apps and some recording tools, but many players and devices won’t open them. MP3 plays almost everywhere. FormatJet converts OGG to MP3 in your browser, so your audio stays on your device and nothing is uploaded.

About the formats

OGGOgg audio

OGG is an open audio format, usually holding Vorbis audio. Games, Android and open-source apps use it, but iPhones and many car stereos can’t play it.

MP3MP3 audio

MP3 is the most widely supported audio format. Its lossy compression makes music about a tenth of the size of a CD, and every phone, car and player can play it.

Converted with Mediabunny, Browser audio decoder (WebCodecs), LAME MP3 encoder, Media engine (FFmpeg).

Questions

What kind of audio is in an OGG file?

Most OGG files hold Vorbis audio. Your browser’s built-in decoder unpacks it, and LAME re-encodes it as MP3.

Will my OGG lose quality as an MP3?

A little can go. Vorbis has already discarded some detail and MP3 encoding discards some more, so choose a higher bitrate in Options when the audio matters. The default is 192 kbps.

Why convert OGG to MP3?

Plenty of players, phones, car stereos and editing apps skip OGG, while MP3 is accepted almost everywhere.

What if my browser can’t handle the OGG?

Decoding relies on your browser’s WebCodecs support, so the page shows a message if yours can’t manage the file. Try again in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
