JPG to SVG
Turn a JPG logo, sketch or scan into a scalable SVG. Nothing is uploaded.
Drop JPG files here
Converted on your device. Files are never uploaded.
Up to 20 files at a time.
Logos and drawings often turn up as JPGs, which blur and show blocky edges when you scale them up. Tracing a JPG into an SVG redraws it as shapes you can resize without blur, edit or recolour. FormatJet does the tracing in your browser, so your file never leaves your device.
About the formats
JPGJPEG image
JPG (or JPEG) is the most widely supported photo format. Its lossy compression keeps files small, which suits photos but not sharp text or transparency.
SVGSVG vector image
SVG is a vector format made of shapes instead of pixels, so it stays sharp at any size. It’s used for logos, icons and illustrations on the web.
Converted with jSquash, vtracer, Image engine.
Questions
Can I convert a photo from JPG to SVG?
You can, but the SVG will be large and posterised, with skies, skin and other smooth shading broken into flat bands of colour. JPG to SVG is meant for logos, icons, drawings and text that were saved as JPG.
Will the SVG have a transparent background?
A JPG has no transparent areas, so its background is part of the picture. In colour mode it’s traced into shapes like the rest of the image, so a white background stays white in the SVG.
Why does my SVG have specks or rough edges?
JPG compression leaves faint blotches around edges, and the tracer turns them into small extra shapes. Start from the largest, sharpest copy of the JPG you have, and try low detail in Options for simpler shapes.
Can I get a black-and-white SVG from a JPG?
Yes. Choose black and white in Options to trace a single-colour version, which suits ink drawings, stamps and scanned lettering. Colour mode keeps the JPG’s colours as separate shapes.
Is my JPG uploaded for tracing?
No. vtracer runs inside your browser, so the JPG stays on your device. The counter under the file list shows 0 bytes uploaded and lists what the page did send, such as anonymous usage stats, never file names or contents.
