MOV to MP4

Turn MOV videos from iPhones and Macs into MP4 files. Nothing is uploaded.

On your device

Drop MOV files here

Converted on your device. Files are never uploaded.

Up to 20 files at a time.

iPhones and Macs record video as MOV, but plenty of websites, apps and Windows PCs expect MP4. FormatJet moves the video and audio into an MP4 container without re-encoding them where it can, so the picture stays exactly as recorded. The conversion runs in your browser, and the video never leaves your device.

About the formats

MOVQuickTime movie

MOV is Apple’s QuickTime video format, the one iPhones record in. It holds the same kinds of video as MP4, but some Windows apps and websites don’t accept it.

MP4MP4 video

MP4 is the most widely supported video format, used by phones, cameras and websites. It usually holds H.264 or HEVC video with AAC audio.

Converted with Mediabunny, Media engine (FFmpeg).

Questions

Will an iPhone MOV still play after converting to MP4?

Yes, wherever the original played. The HEVC or H.264 video stays exactly as the iPhone recorded it and is only moved into an MP4 container, so a device that couldn’t play the MOV’s video won’t play the MP4 either.

Why convert MOV to MP4 at all?

Many upload forms, websites and Windows apps list MP4 as the video format they take, and some turn MOV away. Changing the container gets the same recording past them.

Does the conversion re-encode my video?

Normally not. Mediabunny copies the streams across untouched, which keeps the quality and is much faster than re-encoding. If a stream can’t go into MP4 as it is, your browser re-encodes it on your device, and that takes longer.

How big a MOV can I convert?

Up to 1 GB. FormatJet reads the video in pieces instead of loading it all into memory, so long recordings work too.

Are my home videos uploaded anywhere?

No. The streams are copied inside your browser tab, so family clips stay on your phone or computer, and the counter under the file list shows 0 bytes uploaded.
